National Energy Foundation’s Super Homes Initiative Benefits Petersfield Town

Hi, i’m paul janilio and i work as refurbishment lead for the national energy foundation, we’re a charitable organization based in milton keynes and established in 1988 to help people improve the use of energy in buildings. I’M very pleased to share with you a case study of which the town of petersfield has benefited from, and this is the neff’s, the national energy foundation’s super homes initiative.There are actually three super homes in the petersfield area, my own home, being one which i retrofitted in 2009.So what is a super home? Well, a super home is a property where the owner has deployed a package of energy efficiency and renewable technology measures to bring about a real drastic reduction in their household co2 emissions. They’ll normally also benefit from significantly reduced running costs and perhaps, most importantly, improved health and comfort and enjoyment of their own home.

How the Super Homes Network Can Help You Save Money on Energy Efficiency

The really powerful thing about super homes is that owners would periodically open them up to the public and visitors would come along, and the peer-to-peer learning was really very powerful and neff collected statistics and data that showed that one in four visitors to a super home actually Went on to spend five thousand pounds or more on energy efficiency improvements to their own property.Back in uh april of this year, nephry launched its super homes network, which is available to join for both uh private homeowners and for landlords with a portfolio of properties and at the same time, we relaunched our super homes rating scheme, which is a one to five Star rating for retrofitting, which gives a benchmark of of achievement and there’s something that all homeowners can aspire to in there.We don’t only look at energy and emissions and running costs.

We also look at health, comfort and well-being .I’M really pleased to say that some earlier in the year, nephew commenced a project with pecan the petersfield climate action network, where we received funding from the energy redress scheme and we’re going to be carrying out 150 whole house. Retrofit plans for private owners in and around petersfield we’re targeting that 25 of these homes will actually be super home, show homes and we will film video fly through so other can learn. Others can learn from the benefits, we’re also building a supply chain of professionals and contractors to be able to service the retrofit market. My own home, which I retrofitted in 2009, i improved the insulation. I got the fabric right. First, i improved the ventilation with heat recovery ventilation i put in a rated double glazing and doors. I put an air source heat pump in my property.

Reducing your energy costs with SuperHomes

I put solar PV and solar thermal on the roof, and all this helped me to actually reduce my running costs from about 1100 pounds a year down to just below 300 pounds a year, which was a really significant saving. I was also able to reduce my carbon dioxide emissions from four tons down to just 270 kilograms a year, something i was very pleased about, so um yeah. I hope to tell you more about super homes.
